The gathering begins at the waist. I actually returned that dress, but I have two others that are similar. Since I am short, I cut the fabric below the elastic waistband and raised the skirt considerably.

The hipline is not fitted. The smocked top goes to the waist and the dress is full from the waist down. The dress is very comfortable and I always receive compliments when I wear it.

What is the fabric the dress is made of is it rayon?

BEST ANSWER: The dress is 100% cotton. I love it. It does not need ironing, because it is suppose to have a crinkled look. After washing I lay the bodice on my bed (or any flat surface) and I smooth out the sleeves (finger ironing, it's called) and then I twist the skirt section as tight as I can and let it air dry all twisted. After a few hours I just shake the dress loose and wear it. I took it on a cruise ship and dressed it up with a wide navy blue belt. It is great for dancing. I love this dress.

No it is 100 percent cotton and has a very high quality and feel. If you wash it I would not dry it but hang it up damp and smooth with your hands. Of course you could iron it or steam it in the shower. Really flattering fit.

The dress is made of a light weight cotton. Not sheer. I iron my sleeves and give the skirt a thorough twist and let it dry that way like a broomstick skirt.

BEST ANSWER: When I bought the dress I was at my highest weight, 190 and I bought a large. It fit great and the fullness if the skirt was plenty big enough to for my hips. I have since listed 35 pounds and the dress still fits great. The smocked top is stretchy so it fits your figure. I hope this helps.
